Dunn
bid rejected
Blackburn have turned down Birmingham's club-record
£5.5million move for David Dunn.
The England
midfielder is known to be unhappy with life at Ewood Park after a
much-publicised bust-up with boss Graeme Souness over his 'lifestyle'.
Blues manager Steve Bruce made a bid for the player late last week after
being given the green light by club owner David Sullivan following their
successful first season in the Premiership.
However, it is believed the deal, which would have eclipsed the £4.25million
Bruce shelled out for Republic of Ireland striker Clinton Morrison 12 months
ago, included only a £3million downpayment with further instalments
dependent on Birmingham's continued survival in the top flight.
With other clubs, notably Everton, also expressing an interest in
23-year-old Dunn, who now seems certain to leave his hometown club this
summer despite agreeing to come off the transfer list towards the end of the
season, the Rovers board have knocked it back.
It leaves Bruce, who has also been linked with Manchester United stand-in
keeper Roy Carroll, to decide whether to pursue his interest or turn his
attentions elsewhere.
Dunn seemed to lose his way after making his England debut against Portugal
in December and was controversially placed on the transfer list by Souness,
who didn't believe the player's personal life was conduicive to that of a
professional footballer.
Dunn flatly denied this allegation and although Souness has since relented,
the pair hardly speak to each other and while no doubt saddened to lose a
player of undoubted talent, the Rovers boss might find the cash handy as he
tries to keep hold of star duo Damien Duff and Brad Friedel. |
