Transfer Window to Open
Football's
bubbling transfer market will start to come to the boil on Sunday when
Premiership clubs are officially allowed to begin their dealings for the
summer.
The transfer window within which clubs must operate to sign contracted
players re-opens on 1 June, having been closed since 31 January.
Some Premiership moves have already been set in stone, like Teddy
Sheringham's release from Tottenham and Lee Bowyer's exit from relegated
West Ham for Newcastle.
And a string of top players, such as Brazilian stars Ronaldinho and Rivaldo,
Barcelona's Patrick Kluivert and Auxerre's Djibril Cisse, have been linked
with English clubs.
Other possible deals, such as a rumoured swoop from Real Madrid or Barca for
Manchester United's David Beckham, remain confined to the realms of
speculation.
Fifa's new transfer window system allows Premiership clubs to sign
contracted players only in January and from the beginning of June to the end
of August.
The previous system in Britain allowed transfers during the season up to the
third Thursday in March, with a freeze until the summer.
That system still exists for Nationwide League clubs - for whom the transfer
window does not apply. |
